I have been considering upgrading to Pioneer Cdj's for a while now. 900's to be precise. I was wondering if any guys and girls on here who have maybe used a few different types and brands of table top player would give me some input as to how you rated them and any other brands you considered to be up there with Cdj's? It's an expensive move for me and my only reservation is really where do you stop paying for the quality and start paying for the name with cdj's. :?

go to ANY major club in the world and you'll find Pioneer CDJ's. The new 2000s are amazing but also $1800+ each.

From what I know of CD players, the only other brand I'd even consider working with is Denon but that's only if the Pioneers aren't available.

To me, Pioneer has been the leader since this guy back 10+ years ago:

Yeah I have used the old type Cdj's before and the new ones are cool but as you say around £1400 here or £980 for the 900's. Others I have looked at are American Audio, Cortex and the Denon players you mention. If i want to drop price bracket the Cdj 400 is on the same vibe but at £600. I think I am going to have to save a bit harder as i consider them an investment for the future and i would like at least 1 quality set up.2 CDJ 2000's and a DJM 2000 mixer would be the dog's but at around 5 grand I'm a now in fantasy land!!

Pioneer is THE name for DJ gear and I personally wouldn't buy anything other. The 1000's aren't the industry standard for nothing!

I'm still using my beginner setup which includes two CDJ-200's, I've been using those for a couple of years and I love them. I wouldn't mind an upgrade but not for any particular reason. I use Serato, so I really only need something that can play CD's and has a pitch slider :P

Personally the 900's are too much for me. I only need something simple, so I would go for 1000MK3's if I were buying something for myself.

If you need features that the 900's offer then perfect, as long as you are looking at Pioneer then I think you'll make the right choice. Even my 200's are AWESOME! I love them! I highly recommend Pioneer.

the CD players are definitely not an area you want to compromise on; i'd save for the Pioneers.

i'm eventually going to replace my cdj 100s with 400s because they 400s can control scratch live. 8)

I did consider the 400's as well primarily because I work off a USB hard drive now as I took the time way back to rip all my collection to MP3 320 bitrate. I even had some of my old vynil on cd, as way back then I recorded my vynil onto mini disc (remember them?) and then burnt it on cd. I do a lot of mobile work and use Numark D2 directors that are perfect for this kind of work but I want my own CDj's for dance events and personal mixes for my website. Already i am starting to see 900's and 2000's on ebay second hand so I think I will wait, save and go for the bad boys.

i think i'm seeing some threads on scratchlive.net about supporting the 2000s in an update that should be coming out very soon.

i still haven't figured out why any new gear with a pioneer logo doesn't automatically support scratchlive but i guess Rane/Serato didn't think that far enough ahead.
